What is Plan B if the President ignores Plan A: the request that he issue an Executive Order mandating that gays be included in the Military Equal Opportunity Progam in the exact way as blacks, women, etc. are?
How come i don't see any support for your cause from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Retired Officer's Association, Disabled American Veterans, USNAAA, AOG, and a dozen other patriotic organizations. Your support listing of organizations reveals volumes about your nefarious agenda: ACLU, PAW, AVER, LCR..... Your tactics reek of being totally one-sided....the wrong side.
For Patrick Murphy: Thank you for all you did for us. The idea of gutting the mandate for nondiscrimination protections of gay service members IN the military post repeal was never publicly discussed until suddenly last May the MREA was dead & the so-called "compromise" contained no such protections. According to Ryan Grim at HUFPO, Nancy Pelosi told reporters that, quote, "the House weakened its repeal language to mollify the White House....[that] military leaders refused to accept language that would bar discrimination, so the clause was dropped,” unquote. WHO first suggested this surrender, suggesting "out of the blue" it was a deal breaker, and why did our allies in Congress agree to it? Names please.
Many, if not all talk about the repeal allowing Gay and Lesbian people to serve openly, my question is a simple one to all organizations, "will they shut up shop once repeal is implemented, or will they work next, or now, on allowing transsexual people to serve as is the case in Canada, UK, Poland, Spain, Australia?" All organizations seem to be quiet on this and we (TS-IS) people would like to know when they intend to work for us, or leave us behind. I am not interested in the laws, or the details, or the explanations of the UCMJ code, I want to know if the national organizations will now take up arms to ensure that transsexual people who wish to serve our country can do so.
I look forward to the time I may use my real name. I repesent active duty gay military families, a group that has been under represented by our lgbt organizations during the repeal process. We are glad of SLDN efforts to reinstate the non-discrimination policy. My question to the panel; which organization is taking the lead on gathering partner/spouse issues and bringing them to the DoD transition group?
When will there be pressure on the military to let transfolk serve openly?
Question for Aubry Sarvis: On Wednesday you sent an open letter to the President requesting an Executive Order granting non-discrimination protections to replace DADT. Since the Military Readiness Enhancement Act did not pass, this protection is necessary. However, in your letter you suddenly bootstrapped gender identity into the list of those of us that were actually adversely effected by DADT. Considering neither DADT nor MREA ever had anything to do with gender identification matters, and considering DADT's repeal is still at a very vulnerable stage right now, did you think that request was wise, and realistic?
