Felicity Huffman garnered a slew of awards for her fantastic
performance as a conservative male-to-female transgender woman who
takes an unexpected journey when she learns that she has a son.
This wonderful film also gets accolades for a fair portrayal of someone
who has changed gender. It won the 2006 GLAAD Media Award for
Outstanding Film in Limited Release.
Boys Don't Cry
The superb performance of Hillary Swank, in her first Oscar-winning
role, is not the only reason to see this landmark 1999 film.
The amazing true story of young Teena Brandon depicts the joys and
struggles many transgendered individuals experience, including having
one’s deepest feelings rejected by a society that doesn't accept
diversity. Winner of the 2000 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film
in Limited Release.
Beautiful Daughters
This fascinating documentary, which premiered on Logo in February
2006, provides an in depth look at the complex lives of a group of
extraordinary women as they perform roles in an all-transgender version
of the play The Vagina Monologues. The merging of the topics is nothing less than brilliant, and the performers and filmmakers pull it off superbly.
Ma Vie en Rose
This superb film in French is about a young, and innocent, boy who
expresses his natural desire to be a girl to his family, friends and
school. The reaction is authentic and moving, and ultimately
satisfying.
Winner of a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, and winner of
the 1998 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film in Limited Release.
Normal
Superb performances by Jessica Lange and Tom Wilkinson highlight
this film about a "normal" everyday faithfully married man in middle
America who finally, after 25 years of marriage, tells the world he is
a woman inside a man's body. The response of his wife is ideal, a role
model for how love and commitment reigns above everything else.
Winner of several awards including the 2004 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Television Movie.
Southern Comfort
The gripping, disturbing real life story of Robert Eads who died of
ovarian cancer because he could not find a doctor willing to treat a
transgendered individual. The film revolves around the annual
transgender Southern Comfort Conference usually held in Atlanta.
Winner of the 2003 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary.
