Terry Hamilton Log Cabin Republicans

Terry W. Hamilton is the Secretary of the National Board of Directors of Log Cabin Republicans.

He is also the Chairman of California Log Cabin with five chapters and several caucuses in the state.

Terry is a pubic school teacher in California. He and his domestic partner, John, have been working in Log Cabin for over twenty years.

Terry met John thirty five years ago in the Southern California Youth Chorale / Musical Americans. They traveled with this performing group and presented the best of America to many countries, world-wide.

I never imagined that I would be an activist but I have become one. I found a home in Log Cabin twenty years ago.

Accepting my genuine self was a process. It started by building a relationship with another caring person, my partner John. I had a few demons to work through, including my upbringing in a fundamentalist, evangelical church. Log Cabin provided a place, a circle of caring friends and a framework to move forward.

With the help of the Liberty Education Forum, a sister organization to Log Cabin Republicans, I have learned to accept myself and tell my personal story. One of my favorite stories is how I finally came out to my loving Grandmother - Don't Tell Grandma, It Will Kill Her!

Log Cabin welcomes everyone. It doesn't limit involvement. It is open to all. You don't have to have any credentials or hail from any particular group. Non gays are welcome in Log Cabin. Even liberals and democrats can call Log Cabin their home - as long as they behave themselves and do not cut off debate.

Log Cabin believes that the Republican Party can be saved. The party must return to its core values of individual responsibility which stems from a belief in liberty for all Americans. This includes LGBT Americans.

I believe that Log Cabin is best suited to effect change in our society. By acting individually and through association with a larger group, we can bring all Americans together. We can only effect change when we feel safe. This means that the highest duty of government is to protect its citizens. Those who desire to harm our form of government and its citizens must be thwarted through a strong national defense.

Government needs to get out of the way. It needs to empower its citizens by allowing each of us to use the money we have earned to make our country a better place. This means keeping taxes as low as possible - giving the citizens the choice of where to give donations to causes that are just.

My money is on Log Cabin Republicans. We are fighting a good fight. We lobby for full responsibility and rights for all of us. We support our own Log Cabin candidates. Log Cabin also supports candidates who agree with our mission:

The mission of the Log Cabin Republicans is to work within the Republican Party to advocate equal rights for all Americans, including gays and lesbians.

I would be honored if you would support Log Cabin through all means possible: becoming a subscriber, attending a Log Cabin event and making a contribution. It is worth your consideration and participation, and we thank you for both.
