Brad Holland explains his support for Dr. Matt Heinz running for US House in Arizona
Dear Friends,
I want to introduce my good friend and Southern Arizona's next Congressman, Dr. Matt Heinz. Matt is witty, tenacious, able to operate on few hours sleep and STILL wrap his brain around the hot mess of backward byzantine political stupid that we call the Arizona Legislature. He is a MD working night shifts at Tucson Medical Center, and he is my state legislator. Matt is one of the loudest voices for equality in our state. Rep. Heinz has spent the past four years in Phoenix advocating for equal rights for LGBTQ's, and for all Arizonans. He works across party lines in a state with deep partisan divisions, and he gets things done as a result. Matt Heinz accomplishes all this without compromising his personal or professional integrity.
Matt has gone to the mat (hmmm...I like that) to protect access to health care and survivor benefits for partners of state employees, and has sponsored domestic partnership legislation the past two years. It is his ability to get results that is so desperately needed in a Washington frozen by hyper-partisan conflict. .
Dr. Matt Heinz is trained to recognize problems and get solutions under urgent conditions. For that reason, he stepped up to run in a difficult special election in the seat held until recently by Gabrielle Giffords. When I look at Matt, I see so much of what I admire in Gabby. Matt is a hard worker, a good listener and at the end of the day, an unwavering advocate. He will get things done because we simply cannot afford to give ground on all that Gabby has accomplished.
I ask you to take the time to get to know Matt. His record and ideas will soon be posted at heinzforcongress.com. When Matt goes to DC, we will certainly have a savvy political operative, but perhaps more importantly, LGBTQ kids across the globe will have another out/proud/effective role model.
"It Gets Better" but not without your help. This race will be ugly and expensive. Those who oppose us in Arizona don't even bother with dog whistling. They shout their hate from the roof tops.
NOW is the time to impress your friends with your generosity. Dig Deep. If we can win in ARIZONA, we can win anywhere.
