I am proud to support Jeff Anderson's candidacy for U.S. Congress. Minnesota is facing a number of critical votes in November 2012, including two that have great significance to the LGBT community. First, Minnesota is in a unique position this year to be the first state in the nation to defeat an anti-equality marriage amendment to its state constitution. And second, Minnesota's 8th Congressional District has the opportunity to elect Jeff as Minnesota's first openly gay member of Congress.

Jeff was born and raised in Ely, MN-the gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area on Minnesota's Iron Range-and lives in Duluth where he served on the City Council and currently sits on the Duluth Economic Development Authority. As Jeff likes to acknowledge, he is a "fourth generation Iron Ranger" and thus he knows the people he will represent and can effectively advocate for their interests.

He is a progressive pragmatist who has a reputation of being a no-nonsense leader; willing to reach across the political aisle to pass things like Duluth's Domestic Partnership Registry-which recognizes the relationships of all Duluth residents regardless of gender-and a resolution speaking out against Minnesota's anti-equality marriage amendment. As Duluth's first openly gay City Councilor, Jeff worked hard to build a more prosperous and inclusive city. Jeff is now ready to bring his leadership and experience to the U.S. Congress.

But Jeff is not a single-issue candidate. He knows, and has demonstrated, that he can represent the broad-based interests of the constituents who elect him. He will not only be an advocate for LGBT Minnesotans in Congress and work tirelessly for equality across the country, but will press for common-sense solutions to help all Minnesotans -and all Americans - succeed. He understands that equality is more than marriage rights. It's passing non-discrimination laws that ensure all people have economic security and live in dignity. It's ending the income disparities that we see across numerous demographic groups. And, it's ensuring all kids can go to school without fear of bullying and have the opportunity to go to college.

I know he will be a champion for all Americans and have no doubt in my mind that Jeff is the best candidate in this race. His record speaks for itself and I sincerely hope that you will join me in supporting his campaign.
