The Respect Awards are an opportunity for GLSEN to honor and celebrate some of the leaders who have helped move GLSEN's mission forward.  Honorees are recognized for their outstanding commitment to all of America’s students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. GLSEN’s Respect Award is bestowed on a selective basis to extraordinary allies in our safe schools movement. Previous Respect Awards honorees have included: California State Senator Sheila Kuehl, writer and producer Greg Berlanti, Tony award-winning writer and director Moises Kaufman (The Laramie Project), philanthropist and former U.S. Ambassador James C. Hormel, and Dr. Neal Baer.

In 2008 Floridians will vote on a state constitutional amendment that could strip away legal protections, health care and employee benefits thousands of Florida families count on every day and that would permanently ban same sex marriages and civil unions.
