QUESTIONS ABOUT USING THIS WEBSITE
What if I forgot my username or password?
> Enter your email address here and your username and password will be sent automatically to you right away. Or at any time click on the Forgot link at the top of the menu on the left.
How do I change my password?
> First login, and then go to preferences and you will be able to change your password.
Why is registration not instantaneous like in most other websites?
>
Because of the sensitivity of the information eQualityGiving provides
to Registered Members, a human verifies your registration before
approving it. It is important to fill all the information in the
registration form if you want to get approved.
How do I choose a username?
> The username needs to be at least three characters (only letters
or numbers, no spaces or dashes). You can use your first and/or last name
(without spaces) or anything else you want. Your username will be displayed
in any comments you post (but your email address is not). Note that the
administrators have access to both your username and your email address.
Can I distribute your content to others?
> Feel free to provide a link to any page of this website to anybody
you want. You can send the link via email to your list, post it in
forums or on websites. However, you need prior written authorization from eQualityGiving if
you are going to cut and paste or quote the actual content.
Can anyone have a page on your website?
> eQualityGiving provides the technology to add many, many pages edited directly by
their authors. However, we are very selective about who is invited to be an author. eQualityGiving requires high quality of materials that are thought provoking to sophisticated donors.
How can I become an author for eQualityGiving?
> If you have new insights to provide to donors, please check the Authorship Opportunities and then contact us about what you want to write. Authors that are invited to write for eQualityGiving are among the most brilliant thought leaders.
How do I know what articles are written by eQualityGiving and which ones by invited authors?
> All the materials written by eQualityGiving are set on a white background. Materials written by invited authors and registered members are set against a shaded background.
How do I find out when new recommendations are made?
>
Simply sign up for the Alerts in the menu bar on the left. We do not sell or give your information to anyone, and we do not
overwhelm you with emails since they are sent only about once or twice
a month. Check the archive of alerts sent since February 2008. In addition, registered members have access to customized options as to the method and frequency of the notifications about changes to articles on this website.
How is that my comment or blog post was deleted?
> eQualityGiving expects professionalism and high quality of comments and blog posts. Please review and abide by the posting guidelines for comments and the posting guidelines for blogs. Postings non compliant with these guidelines are deleted by the editors.
How up to date is your information?
> We strive to provide
accurate and up to date information. At the bottom of each page we
state when that page was last updated. If you have any questions or
comments, please contact us.
QUESTIONS ABOUT eQualityGiving
For whom is this website?
> This website is for new and experienced donors who want to give to
achieve legal equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and
queer (LGBTQ) Americans.
What does eQualityGiving do?
> We provide a very
comprehensive set of services to assist donors in giving strategically to
achieve LGBTQ equality under the law. The majority of these services
are provided exclusively to Registered Members and there is no charge.
These services include recommendations about which politicians and
organizations to support, conference calls with equality leaders, email
network to discuss strategic giving, giving guides, and other services.
How is that you provide all the services for free?
> eQualityGiving is fully funded by its founders, Juan and Ken
Ahonen-Jover as their contribution to the community. None of the
services costs anything to donors, organizations, politicians, or
anyone. Furthermore, to ensure objectivity and independence,
eQualityGiving does not accept payment or advertisements from anyone.
Do I give money to candidates and organizations through you?
> No. Our website and research are fully funded by the founders.
Donors can give money directly to the recommended organizations and candidates using the link provided that goes directly to their
contribution page on their own website.
Does eQualityGiving fundraise for organizations or candidates?
>
No. eQualityGiving provides impartial, professional
recommendations to donors. We do not pressure donors to give. Many donors give
based on our recommendations, but they feel that eQualityGiving provides a
safe environment in which they will not be pressured to give.
Why is it named eQualityGiving?
> The focus is on giving to achieve equality. But the name also emphasizes the aspects of quality (strategic) giving using electronic means (the internet).
How do you make recommendations?
> We analyze organizations and candidates and then make
recommendations to give to those who will advance equality in the most
strategic way. Check the specific criteria for endorsing candidates. We only endorse candidates who support all Equality Goals. Organizations are endorsed based on their contribution to achieve an Equality Goal as explained in this strategic framework.
Are you associated with any other organization?
> No. We are completely independent. All funding to support the website is provided by the founders.
Why don’t you recommend any service organizations?
> Service organizations are very important, but eQualityGiving's
knowledge and focus are on organizations that are working on achieving
legal equality for LGBTQ Americans?
Can you recommend the best companies to patronize?
> To make this type of recommendation is not our focus, but it is
very important that we all patronize good companies. Buy Blue used to provide this information, but it no longer exists... which leaves an opening for
somebody else to provide this important service.
Why are there so many letters in LGBTQ? Is the Q really necessary?
> It is imperative to be inclusive of all sexualities and gender
identities and expressions. LGBTQ represents lesbians, gays, bisexuals,
transgenders, and those who identify as queer, questioning, intersexed,
omnisensual, pansexual, genderqueer, or other.
Where do I find a directory of LGBT organizations?
> eQualityGiving directory of organizations is unique because it lists the organizations with a letter from a major donor (who usually is also on the board of directors). Another directories that you can check are: GayCrawler, Gay OK.
