Three easy things you can do:

1. ADD COMMENTS TO ARTICLES

This is an important way to present your views and enrich this online community of donors. Please read these guidelines before posting.

2. WRITE ABOUT A SPECIFIC DONATION

eQualityGiving's Giving for Equality Blog and Maverick Giving Blog can be read by all visitors, but only Registered Members can post. In the Giving for Equality Blog write about a donation you made in the past year of at least $1,000 to an organization or to an eQualityGiving Endorsed Candidate candidate. In the Maverick Giving Blog write about a donation in any amount that was innovative or it was addressed to little-known organizations advancing LGBT equality.

Please read the Blog guidelines before posting.

3. NOMINATE CANDIDATES

Nominate new candidates for Equality Heroes, Endorsed Candidates, and Heartbreaking Candidates using this endorsement form. Propose a new Candidate to Defeat using this other form. This is available only to Registered Members.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVITED AUTHORS

Invited Authors write articles bringing significant experience and new insights. There articles are to be reference articles, always up-to-date with the best thinking on the topic. There is no constraint on the length of the article: as long as you need to make your point, but not longer. For example, this article which explains the types of authorships contains approximately 1,000 words.

Invited Authors can take advantage of the following features if they so choose:

  • Add a second part to the article that is visible only to Registered Members.
  • Have attachments (visible to everybody or Registered Members only).
  • Include pictures and videos (visible to everybody or Registered Members only).
  • Write on eQualityGiving's What's New Blog to alert readers of updates to their articles or other news of interest to donors. This blog can only be written by Invited Authors and it is visible to all visitors. The posting appears instantly. Highly recommended.
  • Discuss the article in the Discussion Network (include a link to the article). Highly recommended.
  • Update the article at any time from any computer in the world.

If you think that you can provide important insights to any of the areas below, please contact us. Invited Authors can write about the following in addition to # 1, 2, and 3 above:

4. DONORS WRITING ABOUT ACHIEVING A SPECIFIC EQUALITY GOAL | example

Describe the overall status of a specific Equality Goal as well as the strategy to achieve it. This should be an objective analysis covering multiple perspectives.

5. DONORS WRITING ABOUT THEIR GIVING STRATEGIES | example

Describe your own giving strategy and methods so that other donors can learn from it. It might be particularly helpful to discuss the lessons you learned and the pitfalls to be expected.

6. DONORS WRITING THEIR DONOR PROFILE: THEIR BACKGROUNDS AND MOTIVATIONS | example

Mega donors are encouraged to provide a profile discussing how they got into philanthropy, what are their philanthropic goals, what motivates them, and how they are achieving their own giving goals.

7. DONORS WRITING ABOUT THEIR SUPPORT FOR A POLITICAL CANDIDATE | example

In combination with a candidate's campaign, a donor is selected to write about why he or she maxed out to the candidate and why the donor is also working to get the candidate elected. The more passionate and informative the writing by the donor, the more it will influence other donors.

8. DONORS INDUCTING AN ELECTED OFFICIAL AS AN EQUALITY HERO | example

In collaboration with the official's staff, a donor writes the induction of a pro equality politician currently in federal or statewide office. Provide a balanced view of the official. In general, it is best if the whole induction is open to all visitors (no section exclusively for Registered Members). When somebody inducts a politician in a meeting perhaps 1,000 people will hear it... once! Here many more people will see it... and the induction lives forever!

9. DONORS WRITING THEIR COMING OUT STORY | example

This is coming out with a twist: the story of successful people coming out later in life and dedicating themselves to achieving equality by becoming major and mega donors.

10. DONORS WRITING ABOUT AN ORGANIZATION: A DONOR TO DONOR LETTER | example

A major or mega donor to the organization, including board members, write the letter:

  • Showing the passion for the organization, but without directly fundraising. We provide a link to the organization's website.
  • Can have a second part of the letter open exclusively to Registered Members to provide concrete details on each Equality Goal that the organization contributes significantly to achieve. It is not a problem to have an organization focused on achieving a single Equality Goal, but eQualityGiving will not list organizations not contributing significantly to achieve Equality Goals. Be as specific as possible including plans for the next 12 months for each Equality Goal that the organization contributes significantly to. Give the donors a clear idea of what the organization is trying to accomplish in the next 12 months with their money.
The more concrete and up to date the information provided, the more effect it will have on other donors.

11. ORGANIZATIONAL AND THOUGHT LEADERS WRITING ABOUT ACHIEVING A SPECIFIC EQUALITY GOAL | example

Like for donors (see # 4 above), the organizational or thought leader discusses the status of an Equality Goal as well as the strategy to achieve it.  More than likely, the leader will focus on the area of expertise of his/her organization, which usually falls into one of four categories (litigation, legislation, coalitions, winning hearts and minds). This is like a keynote speech and needs to be comprehensive and objective. Board members should use #10 above to enthusiastically write about their own organizations.

12. ORGANIZATIONAL AND THOUGHT LEADERS WRITING ABOUT A POLITICAL STRATEGY | example

Most of these strategies relate to electing the proper people and ensuring that they contribute to achieving the Equality Goals. Having a section exclusively for Registered Members is usually very appropriate for these articles.

13. BOOK AUTHORS WRITING ABOUT THEIR BOOKS | example

Authors of books that we recommend in our Book section write about the changes since their book was published.
